Overview of DirectX
DirectX was first introduced in Windows 95 with version 2.0a. And as we found out later, DirectX has progressed quite well, specifically Windows 10 itself, now has reached version DirectX 12.
What advantages of DirectX 12?
DirectX 12 has several advantages over its predecessor is one of the features named MultiAdapter. This feature allows the hardware that has multiple GPU (Multiple GPU) will be using each GPU to be more specific, so the developers can maximize GPU performance that is in modern processors Intel & AMD APU to run side by side with the graphics card dedicated (Dedicated GPU). Microsoft also assured developers that DX 12 will increase the FPS (frames per second).
A feature called Multiadapter exist in DirectX 12 enables DirectX 12 to use multiple GPUs (multiple GPU) for more specifics. Multiadapter capability allows developers to use the GPU integrated in modern desktop processors such as Intel and AMD APU weeks to co-exist with a special dedicated graphics card (dedicated GPU).
In some testing by Microsoft, it appears that the ability of the existing multiadapter on DirectX 12 capable increased frames per second which is higher when compared to using only a single GPU adapter. This benchmarking tests using a graphics card from Nvidia integrated as part of the Intel Core GPU.
How to Check Version of DirectX 12 in Windows 10
DirectX 12 is exclusive feature that can only be found in Windows 10. Windows Version 8.1 or even Windows 7 will not be able to use DirectX 12. How to check are as follows;
1. Type "Dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the search field of Windows, then press enter.
2. Later will come the DirectX Diagnostic Tool application to check the version of DirectX installed on your PC.
Keep in mind, there are other requirements that are needed for DirectX 12 the hardware that supports DirectX 12, so even if you are already using Windows 10, but after checking still shows the version of DirectX old (11.1 or 10), then the hardware on the PC / Laptop that you use does not support DirectX 12.
So far few processors Intel Haswell, Broadwell as well as the latest series of Intel already supports DirectX 12. AMD also did not miss the realese the APU and GPU that supports DirectX 12 here. So what about the Nvidia? Nvidia GeForce line is certainly not to be outdone by its competitors, the list of GPUs that support DirectX 12 could you check here.
With the advantages offered by DirectX 12, seems quite promising, especially you the hardcore gamers will really enjoy the latest DirectX update from Microsoft. Indeed, it is unfortunate DirectX 12 can only be enjoyed by Windows 10, but it does not hurt too you update to Windows 10 if it is ready.
