Perseus- Perseus is the husband of Andromeda. He is a legend of Mycenae and of the Perseid dynasty. Perseus is the first hero in Greek mythology who had defeated various monsters sent by the gods of Olympus. Perseus is also a Greek hero who has managed to kill the Gorgon, Medusa, and seize the rescued Andromeda from the sea monster sent by Poseidon the god of the sea, when Andromeda made sacrifices by his mother Queen Cassiopeia.


Perseus In mythology


PerseusIn the kingdom of Argos are a daughter named Danae, Akrisios She was the daughter of the king of Argos. One day, due to a sense of disappointment on his luck because they do not have one grandchild, he consulted the Delphic oracle. But the results of the consultation was very surprising. Oracle predicted that the son of Danae (Akrisios grandchildren) would kill her someday. Danae was not yet have children, and to keep it so, Akrisios imprisoning him in a bronze tower.

One day Zeus went to Danae in the form of a shower of water and impregnated. From that relationship was born a boy named Perseus.

Akrisios shocked to learn that his daughter gave birth to a child of Zeus. Akrisios wanted to kill the child but the fear of triggering the anger of the gods for killing Descendants of Zeus and his own daughter, finally found a way. Akrisios decided to enter Danae and Perseus in a wooden crate and throw it into the sea.


The coffin was stranded on the island of Serifos, where they were caught and rescued by a fisherman named Diktis, which then raise Perseus into adulthood. Diktis is the brother of Polidektes, king of Serifos Island.


Perseus vs Medusa


Eventually, Polidektes fell in love with Danae. But Perseus had grown and always keep his mother from coercion Polidektes so Polidektes develop a plan to keep Perseus of Danae.

When one day Polidektes tried to approach her, Perseus returned prohibit Polidektes. Finally Polidektes said that he would marry a girl just love horses. Polidektes also wants everyone to give an appropriate gift to the bride. Perseus Polidektes then asked, "What would you give as a gift? A squadron of Horse? Carriage? Or maybe a box of jewelry?"

Perseus replied that he did not have anything. Polidektes also called Perseus as the poor are lazy. Angered by being insulted like that, Perseus stated that he could bring anything that is desired by Polidektes.

"OK!!" Polidektes said, "Bring me the head of Medusa!"

Perseus undertakes Polidektes request and immediately set off to find Medusa.

Medusa was a monster who had hair of snakes and her gaze would turn any creature into stone. Medusa is one of the three Gorgon.

After receiving the task, for a long time Perseus wandering aimlessly and without hope of finding a place to stay the Gorgon. Amid the desperation, suddenly he was visited by the goddess Athena. The goddess nymph told him that the north will give the tools to kill Medusa and only the graeae who knows where the nymph.


The graeae are three elderly women who had only one eye and one tooth they used interchangeably. Perseus seize their eyes and asked where the nymph. Once notified, Perseus restore their eyes.

Perseus went to the nymph. There, the nymph lent kibisis pouch for storing the head of Medusa, the sword of Zeus, the winged sandals of Hermes, and a cap of invisibility of Hades. Athena also lent a mirror shield. After obtaining a variety of weapons, Perseus was wearing winged sandals and flying towards a nest of Grogon.

Perseus went to the nymph. There, the nymph lent kibisis pouch for storing the head of Medusa, the sword of Zeus, the winged sandals of Hermes, and a cap of invisibility of Hades. Athena also lent a mirror shield. After obtaining a variety of weapons, Perseus was wearing winged sandals and flying towards a nest of Grogon.

Arriving there, Perseus wore a cap of invisibility and become invisible, because medusa has two sisters who both malignant, so he did not want his form is unknown and ultimately pursued by two other Gorgon. Perseus entered and walked backward toward the Gorgon (Stheno, euryale and Medusa) sleeping. He saw the manifestation of the Gorgon through the mirror shield provided by Athena. 

Medusa and Perseus approached directly cut Medusa's head with his sword. Perseus and Medusa head incorporate into kibisis bag, and hurried away from the nest Grogon using the winged sandals of Hermes. Meanwhile, from Medusa headless body sprang Pegasus and chrysaor. Gorgon two others were awakened by the birth of Pegasus and chrysaor, but could not find the presence of the person who killed Medusa.


Retaliation For Polidektes

Together with Andromeda, Perseus returned to Serifos and knowing that his mother and Diktis was hiding in the temple because Polidektes forcibly tried to marry her. Perseus angry over Polidektes deeds while he was away. Perseus and Andromeda entrust to her mother and rushed to the palace Polidektes.

In the palace, Polidektes and his men did not believe that Perseus had managed to kill Medusa. They even laughed at him. Perseus then took the head of Medusa and change Polidektes and his men to stone.

After that Perseus was no longer requires the head of Medusa, then he gave the head of the goddess Athena, who put it in the middle of Aegis. Do not forget Perseus also return all the equipment he borrowed.

Perseus Andromeda lived together briefly in Serifos before finally Perseus decides to return to Argos, where his family resides. While Diktis asked to become king of Serifos.
